A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated §18-5-22e, relating to county boards of education; and requiring boards to provide free feminine hygiene products in grades six through 12.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:


ARTICLE 5. COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION.


§18-5-22e. Feminine hygiene products to be provided to grades six through 12.

(a) Definitions. For the purposes of this section:

“Feminine hygiene products” means tampons and sanitary napkins for use in connection with the menstrual cycle.

“School building” means any facility: (1) That is owned or leased by the West Virginia Department of Education or any county board of education or over which these entities have the care, custody, and control; and (2) in which there is a public, private, parochial, denominational school, or charter school, with female students in grades six through 12.

(b) The West Virginia Department of Education or any county board of education shall make the board’s choice of feminine hygiene products available, at no cost, to female students.

 

NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to require county boards of education to provide free feminine hygiene products in grades six through 12.
